Summary on Nehemiah
- 42
This is my summary on the book of Nehemiah. This book has thirteen chapters. According to the book of Nehemiah, it is said to be written by the teacher, Ezra. It was written because it tells us how God used Nehemiah to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. In chapter 1 of the book of Nehemiah, it talks about Nehemiah’s prayer to God about Jerusalem. In chapter 2, Nehemiah asks the king, King Artaxerxes, about going to Jerusalem and rebuilding it. The king gave him his approval and Nehemiah inspected the walls of Jerusalem. However, Nehemiah was ridiculed by Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the Ammonite, and the Geshem the Arab on rebuilding the walls. In chapter 3, it primarily talked about who helped him build the walls. In chapter 4, Nehemiah was again ridiculed by Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the Ammonite, and the Geshem the Arab and they rebuked his progress on the walls. In chapter 5, it talked about Nehemiah helping out the poor. In chapter 6, Sanballat, Tobiah, and Geshem (for the third time) rebuked Nehemiah’s progress on the walls. In chapter 7, Nehemiah and his helpers finally completed the wall and his helpers were appointed. It also talked about the exiles who returned back home. In chapter 8, the teacher, Ezra read the Law of Moses to the people. In chapter 9, the Israelites confessed their sins to God and prayed to Him. In chapter 10, the Israelites made an agreement and placed their seals on it. In chapter 11 through 13, it talked about the new residents of Jerusalem, the priest and Levites, and Nehemiah’s final words (respectively). Overall, this is the end of my summary of Nehemiah.
What I learned from this book, Nehemiah, is that I need to keep my faith in God and stay strong to his Word when bad things and good things happen. The reason I should do this is because the time period of this book was when the Israelites were exiled and were returning home, a blessing by God. For example, if I’m depressed, I should be reminding myself that God is with me. Likewise, if I’m having a good day, I should be thankful to God for having this kind of day.
